November 30th, 2018 - Eerie Von - The Horror Business
Eerie Von is a known Artist, Photographer, Musician, Author, and widely respected formative member and Bass player from the Goth/Punk band Samhain and the Gothic Rock/Metal band Danzig. His book, Misery Obscura: The Photography of Eerie Von 1981-2006, serves as the inspiration for the documentary film of the same name. This near career spanning book of photography and memoirs, showcased a mere fraction of his behind-the-scenes images of "The Horror Business." Eerie Von’s lens documented everything from The Misfits humble beginnings . . . to the heights of Danzig’s stadium-rock glory alongside multiple up and coming artists. His essential photographs and archival VIDEO FOOTAGE historically document some of the most influential bands of punk, goth, and rock. Eerie’s often humorous road stories of triumph and damnation bring to life an era the likes of which will never again be seen. A Graduate from the Germain School of Photography in New York City. This notable camera-man is the photographer behind the infamous “Cave Session” in upstate New York, his first gig as the band’s unofficial photographer. EERIE VON was compelled to capture his unique perspective of this period on film. Diligently documenting everything, he continued to earnestly archive “his journey” along the way, through photographs, video footage, and various memoirs. As a musician, Eerie formed Samhain with X-Misfits singer Glenn Danzig, creating a dark, gritty, and experimental combination of punk, Gothic rock, and later, heavy metal music. In 1988, the band name became Danzig. Touring as Bassist, Von performed along-side emerging bands such as, Metallica, Slayer, Soundgarden, White Zombie, Manson, and Type-O Negative; opened for rock predecessors Black Sabbath and many more. This specific journey continued until the band’s elusive original line-up disbandment in 1995. As of 2012, Eerie has contributed to over 27 commercially released recordings since his 1983 Rosemary’s Babies Garage/Punk vinyl release. With 5 solo releases to date, he continues to produce, create and generally be the fan accessible, yet legendary . . . EERIE VON.
